Property Crimes Investigations is an 8-hour training designed to promote the development of participants in investigative techniques, problem-solving skills and case management skills that will promote thoroughness and professionalism leading to an arrest and aiding in a successful prosecution. This training is geared toward new detectives or those aspiring to become detectives. 

 

Responding officers to any property crime investigation are critical because they can document and capture the crime scene in its purest state. During this training, participants will walk through a personal property crime from arrival on scene to the writing of a report. Participants will also apply their previous knowledge when investigating other thefts and assess different types of crimes to determine types of criminals. 

 

Core Competencies:

  • Participants will employ best practices as they investigate any crime from its beginning to its eventual disposition, either as an individual, or as part of an investigatory team.

Course Objectives: 

 

As a result of this training, participants will:

  • Apply previous knowledge when investigating crimes scenes or other thefts
  • Assess type of crime to determine type of criminal
  • Determine appropriate tools to make a reasonable and justifiable conclusion leading to a suspect
  • Create accurate documentation based on interviews with victims, witnesses and suspects
