Police Use of Force – Officer Involved Lethal Force Investigations
A person is justified in using force against another when and to the degree the actor reasonably believes the force is immediately necessary to protect the actor against the other’s use or attempted use of force. “The reasonableness of a particular use of force must be judged from the perspective of a reasonable officer on the scene, rather than with the 20/20 vision of hindsight”. This 12-hour course will challenge investigators to view officer involved lethal force investigations not only from a departmental perspective, but also from a constitutional perspective. This course is instructed by Chief Craig Miller, Chief of Police for the Dallas Independent School District and retired Deputy Chief from the Dallas Police Department.
