Kansas School Resource Officer Basic Training
Creating and maintaining a safer school environment is the primary goal of every SRO. This five-day training assists SROs in equipping themselves with the information and skills needed to identify, address and prevent crime and violence in Kansas schools. The 40-hour curriculum will cover SROs major responsibilities as well as Kansas School Laws, Student Development and the Brain, De-escalation Techniques for Youth, Interviewing Youth, Drug Trends, and Single Officer Response.

Participants will be able to decide upon prescribed courses of action or techniques that will provide a greater level of safety in a school environment, event or situation.

Participants will exhibit fairness in policing while giving people a voice and performing law enforcement duties with impartiality and the necessary level of transparency to sustain and strengthen public trust.

Who Should Attend?
All certified law enforcement officers who are currently assigned or will be assigned as a School Resource Officer.
Prerequisite:
Must complete the two online training blocks on Mitigating Exposure to the Criminal Justice System prior to attending the SRO course. These courses cover the requirements set forth by Senate Bill 367, laws related to the Kansas juvenile justice system. Additionally, a Bias Free Policing course must be completed prior to attending.

The Office of the Kansas Attorney General will reimburse each participant's agency $300 of the registration fee upon successful completion of the course. This course will meet daily from 0800-1700. The registration fee includes all meals and lodging; there will NOT be a pro-rated registration fee for those who do not lodge at KLETC.
A refund less a $25.00 cancellation fee will be assessed for all cancellations made in writing prior to 10 days before the start of the event. After that time, no refunds will be made.
