Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center Graduates 319th Basic Training Class

319th KLETC Graduating Class

Twenty-three new law enforcement officers graduated from the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC) on January 12, 2024, in a ceremony held in KLETC's Integrity Auditorium. KLETC Police Instructor Senior Rob McClarty was the class coordinator for the graduating class, and the commencement speaker for the ceremony was Kansas Highway Patrol Superintendent Colonel Erik Smith.

Colonel Smith reflected on his academy graduations and the lessons he learned from instructors while in training, lessons he has had to draw upon when facing the unknown.  “In the coming weeks and months, and even years, you too will have to draw upon those lessons,” said Smith, who emphasized that one of the most important lessons is justice, or, representing the badge and patch with honor.  “Here at KLETC you’ve learned that justice isn’t simply about writing a ticket or making an arrest.  It’s about doing the right thing, in the right way, for the right reasons, the first time, every time.”

Under the authority of Vice Provost and Director of Police Training Darin Beck, graduates received certificates attesting to the satisfactory completion of a full-time basic course of instruction, and certification as Kansas law enforcement officers from the Kansas Commission on Peace Officers’ Standards and Training, the state’s law enforcement licensing authority.
