Field Training Officer Management Course
Course Description:
This course is designed to properly lead and manage an FTO unit. Each Field Training Manager will be presented with ideas and techniques to assist them in becoming more professional and confident in the application of their skills.
Prerequisites:
- Participants should have attended a formal FTO course or take an available FTO Refresher Course.
Competencies:
- Participants will be able to apply learned strategies to maximize effectiveness of FTOs and their agency's FTO Program.
- Participants will be able to identify legal and ethical issues in FTO Programs by creating documents that improve performance and protect the agency.
Course Objectives:
- Compare and contrast various FTO programs
- Identify demands on Field Training Managers
- Define the duties of Field Training Manager/Coordinators
- Prepare new trainees to enter the FTO Program
- Prepare new FTOs to work with their first trainee
- Discuss and develop framework for administering discipline within the FTO Program
- Design and employ weekly manager's reports

- Tabletop exercises (form/policy creation)
- Individual coaching
- Group facilitated discussion
- Comprehensive exam
Target Audience:
- Field Training supervisors/coordinators, agency command/executives who don't have a formalized FTO program in place.
