Fair and Impartial Policing - Command

This training program is designed for the agency executive and his/her command-level staff.  This training covers the science of bias and its implications for policing. This training also includes the elements of a comprehensive agency strategy to promote fair and impartial policing to include assessments of and reform in anti-biased-policing policy, recruitment and hiring, training, supervision and accountability, operations, leadership, measurement, and outreach to diverse communities. Agency (and community) leaders exit the training with the elements of an action plan for strengthening the agency's efforts to promote fair and impartial policing. 

 

In addition to FIP's core content, this course helps agency (and community) leaders: 

  • Understand the psychology of bias; 
  • Identify and understand the benefits and elements of a comprehensive program to facilitate fair and impartial policing; 
  • Develop a clear and meaningful biased-policing policy; 
  • Identify how supervision, accountability, recruitment/hiring, and education/training can align with fair and impartial policing; 
  • Collect, understand and respond to data showing racial disparities; 
  • Ensure bias-free operations; 
  • Reach out to diverse communities.
