Course Description:

This is a one day course designed to provide an introduction to digital photography, camera operations and basic scene photography. This course will help students understand camera functions in order to create crisp, clear digital images. For crime scene photography we will focus on depth of field, overall, mid-range and close-up photography. We will also look at techniques for low-light and laser photography. 

 

Students are encouraged but not required to bring a DSLR camera, tripod and any other agency issued equipment. 

 

Course Competency: 

  • Students will be able to employ best practices in crime scene photography, as they investigate any crime from its beginning to its eventual disposition; either as an individual or as part of an investigatory team.

 

Course Objectives:

  • Demonstrate the basic operations of a digital, single lens reflex (DSLR) camera
  • Understand photography terminology and how to use lighting techniques, flash and filters
  • Photograph crime scenes in low light and difficult settings

Please dress in layers, as the temperature in the room may be difficult to adjust. The session begins at 8:00 AM on February 23rd and is estimated to end at 5:00 PM. Onsite registration will be available at 7:30 AM. Participants are responsible for their travel, meals, and lodging.
