Course Description:

On every shift, police officers experience boundless stressors that can range from the merest encounter to outright chaos. This cumulative exposure can affect officers' mental and physical health, contributing to problems such as post-traumatic stress injuries, substance misuse, depression, and suicidal ideation. We will discuss practices that will promote mental health and wellness awareness. We will also introduce a paradigm shift in addressing factors inherent with the law enforcement organizational and cultural norms that provides a new innovating way to implement suicide prevention within an agency.  

Core Competencies: 

  • Participants will support their wellness and resilience with skills learned in the physical, mental, spiritual and emotional areas required of law enforcement officers.

Course Objectives: 

  • Evaluate a paradigm shift in terms of the organizational and cultural norms of suicide 
  • Discuss practices that will promote mental health and wellness awareness
  • Develop a strategy to implement suicide prevention within your agency
