Basic Internet Investigations
Course Description:
Basic Internet Investigations is designed to give investigators, analysts, and individuals serving as direct law enforcement support a basic understanding of terminology and skills needed to conduct Internet-based investigations.
Investigating Internet crimes can be one of the most complex tasks facing the law enforcement professional today. It requires a multidisciplinary approach, supported by technical expertise to a degree not commonly seen with traditional crime.
This class will enable the student to develop the skills necessary to investigate Internet-based crimes in a legally accepted manor, while utilizing open-source and proprietary tools. Emphasis is placed on the examination and collection of data to be used as a valuable investigation tool.
Core Competencies:
- Participants will employ best practices as they investigate any Internet crime from its beginning to its eventual disposition; either as an individual, or as part of an investigatory team.
Course Objectives:
- Learn terminology that will be used in a basis Internet investigation.
- Explain use of routing tool to find financial institutions.
- Practice the use of HTML code for information.
