Accurate and unbiased interpretation is essential to enhancing victim safety and perpetrator accountability. Reliance on untrained interpreters will result in omissions or mistakes that jeopardizes victim safety and successful investigation of cases involving domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and dating violence.

This training will provide an overview of interpretation and translation; interpreter ethics and best practices; how to assess interpreter qualifications for domestic violence and sexual assault cases; how to effectively work with interpreters; and how to spot and address poor interpretation.

Learning Objectives:

  • Articulate the role of and ethical standards for interpreters;
  • Pre-screen interpreters for domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, and sexual assault cases;
  • Identify poor interpretation; and
  • Apply strategies to address poor interpretation.
